2009 Bampton Surgery Patient Experience The
fifth patient experience survey at Bampton Surgery once again showed satisfaction
above the national average in all areas. The top five areas of satisfaction for
patients were seeing their doctor of choice, obtaining telephone advice from a
GP, the availability of any doctor, waiting times at the practice and continuity
of care.
Wherever possible, patients are booked in to see their GP of choice
as continuity of care is an important part of general practice. With Dr Mew moving
into a part-time role from June 2009, we are pleased that Dr Ashhab Chowdhary,
who has worked in Bampton as a locum GP, will be joining the practice to cover
his remaining sessions.
We continually review ways in which we can make
it easy for patients to contact us. The dedicated prescription line, 331564, has
been in use for over a year now and works well in freeing up the main line for
patients to book appointments. The main line, 331304, is busiest with requests
for appointments from 8.30am - 10.30am so patients are asked to telephone for
results in the afternoons only.
Telephone appointments have become a very
popular way for patients to seek advice from a GP without coming in to the surgery.
They can be booked via a receptionist and the doctor will telephone the patient
at the appointed time. An additional consulting room has been made available
on the ground floor, which has made it possible to have three GPs and two nurses
in surgery on Monday and Tuesday mornings. Bampton patients are allocated a generous
15 minute appointment with a doctor and this helps keep waiting times to a minimum.
The newly decorated waiting room and entrance lobby have attracted favourable
comments from patients and the sale of second-hand books continues to be a popular
fundraiser for Cancer Research. EXTENDED
